Overwhelming building. You can only be impressed by the size of this castle. It is emphasized by the fact that the small town is built right at the foot of the castle, unlike several other castles which have gardens all around them.
You can enjoy a free forest walk around the castle during which you’ll come accross a couple of catapults, here to show how the castle has been hit back in the middle ages.
A few minutes’ walk from there back in the town centre you can enjoy a wafle or an ice-cream on the terrace by the lake (following a pedal boat tour is even tastier).

Renovate by Violet Le Duc, interesting to visit.

A remarkably well restored castle that stands out from the forest. It is the perfect place to visit for the afternoon followed by a chill drink onto the terraces of the many cafés and bars in the medieval town. I can only recommend the visit both from an historical point of view as well as from an architectural one. In Pierrefonds, history meets modern world in such a subtle way that it makes us all love this town and its special atmosphere. (A bonus is the lake tour on a boat as well as the bike tour in the forest to join the city of Compiègne)
