» Gerberoy

Gerberoy, near Beauvais in the Oise département, is a village classified amongst the most beautiful villages of France. In the small cobbled streets, you will fall under the spell of old houses adorned with with wisteria and climbing roses. Gerberoy was also the birthplace of the painter Henri Le Sidaner who encouraged the inhabitants of the small village to plant roses everywhere to enhance every corner of the village. When the fine weather starts to arrive, so too do thousands of roses bloom in this little corner of paradise...

A charming village not far from Beauvais. Go there in June/July if you want to see the place at its best, full of roses in the streets, in the gardens.

First village having been classified « Most beautiful French villages », it is also the smallest village of France, with only 40 full-time inhabitants. Thanks to the classification and also thanks to the famous French painter Henri Le Sidaner who played a huge role in the preservation of Gerberoy, wandering through the car-free cobbled streets feels like a travel back in time.
Despite it’s small size Gerberoy has a rich history, having hosted a wounded Henri IV, it also has a strong connection to the UK, notably with the battle of Arundel which was held here in 1435, during the Hundred Years’ War.
In order to fully enjoy your time in Gerberoy, and to visit the two classified gardens « Jardins remarquables » you can stay over in the cosy « Le Logis de Gerberoy » guesthouse.
If you feel peckish there are several quaint restaurants that I recommend: the unmissable « Jardin des Ifs » for it’s vintage family house feel and it’s garden with topiary plants (including the tree of the year 2017 which is a massive topiary tree, so big you can dine in it!), « L’Atelier Gourmand de Sarah » for lighter bites and « L’Hostellerie du Vieux Logis » for it’s local tavern looks.
